August 11, 2005 – The LogistiCare Foundation Inc. announced today that it has awarded a $10,000 grant to the St. Rose Senior Citizens Center in Detroit. The grant money will be used to enable transportation of seniors on the east side of Detroit.
More specifically, the grant will underwrite the cost of reliable transportation to needed services, social enrichment activities and health intervention. The additional access to transportation will significantly enhance the quality of life for the Center’s senior clients.
“We are especially pleased to be able to offer assistance that will help seniors maintain their independence and remain vital participants in the community,” said Chanda Forsythe, program director of The LogistiCare Foundation. “Helping seniors age with dignity is very important.”
“We are grateful to The LogistiCare Foundation for their support,” said Sister Rose Bernadette, co-director of the St. Rose Senior Citizens Center. “A good many seniors in our community still want to be out and active, but can’t do it on their own. This money will go a long way toward helping us continue to provide services for the frail and elderly who are at risk.”
Grant award funds will be applied to costs for insurance, gas and repairs of a van. The Center also will hire a van assistant to help seniors on and off – and even door to door when necessary.
