ATLANTA, July 21, 2005 -- LogistiCare today announced that it has signed an agreement to manage a non-emergency transportation (NET) program for eligible Medicare Advantage members of SCAN Health Plan in California.
LogistiCare will coordinate transportation to medical appointments using ambulatory vehicles and wheelchair vans for the more than 65,000 Medicare Advantage members enrolled with SCAN in Ventura, Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange and San Bernardino counties in Southern California.
“This is a great opportunity for us to showcase the benefits and efficiencies of our transportation model to the Medicare population in California,” said John Shermyen, president and chief executive officer of LogistiCare. “And, more important, we now will be helping to ensure access to healthcare for more individuals enrolled in a Medicare HMO.
“We have been operating in California for a number of years now from our regional office in San Francisco, but this will be the first chance for us to help demonstrate the value of a transportation benefit for Medicare recipients in the state. In the last year, we’ve added similar contracts in Pennsylvania, Maryland and the District of Columbia.”
One of just four social HMOs in theUnited States, SCAN offers seniors an alternative to nursing home care through its comprehensive medical benefits combined with its in-home service offerings.
The service will begin Aug. 1 in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. LogistiCare began servicing Ventura County May 1.
