LOGISTICARE FOUNDATION AWARDS $63,000 GRANT
TO NATIONAL COUNCIL ON INDEPENDENT LIVING

ATLANTA, APRIL 25, 2005 – The LogistiCare Foundation Inc. is proud to announce that it has awarded a $63,000 transportation grant to the National Council on Independent Living (NCIL). Up to 20 of the NCIL’s member organizations – Centers for Independent Living (CILs) and State Councils for Independent Living (SCILs) – will be eligible to receive funds from this grant.

In order to be selected, interested NCIL-membership organizations – in 14 states and the District of Columbia – will be required to present a “problem statement” describing transportation needs of their clientele and a proposal explaining how they will use the funds. Councils in the following states are eligible to apply for the grants: Georgia, Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Florida, Colorado, Maryland, Connecticut, California, Delaware, Oklahoma and Nevada.

“We are very excited that the NCIL has accepted our challenge to participate in this ‘demonstration grant,’” said Chanda Forsythe, program director for The LogistiCare Foundation. “We hope to assist NCIL clientele with their transportation needs and also to learn more about the mobility problems they face in their communities.”

“It is a great feeling to know that we will be getting some additional money to help the people we serve with their transportation needs,” said John Lancaster, executive director of the NCIL. “It’s also particularly innovative that The LogistiCare Foundation is making this into a challenge, so that our member organizations will really need to think through how they can best make use of funds they might receive.”

The NCIL will communicate the challenge to its member organizations. They also will participate in the review and selection process to determine which organizations will receive the grants.

Each of the 20 organizations will be eligible for $3,000 in grant funds. The NCIL will also receive $3,000 for its part in helping to coordinate the grant applications and judging among its member organizations. The LogistiCare Foundation will consider future grant funding based upon the findings from this demonstration year.
