LOGISTICARE CEO PRESENTS AT 150TH AFRICAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH'S ANNUAL MISSOURI CONFERENCE

ATLANTA, Nov. 5, 2004 – LogistiCare is proud to announce that John Shermyen, president and chief executive officer of LogistiCare, will be presenting today at the 150th African Methodist Episcopal Church’s (AME Church) Annual Missouri Conference and Annual Planning Meeting in St. Louis.

Mr. Shermyen will address a group of several hundred pastors and ministers representing 286 congregations across 15 states of the AME Church about the strategic partnership agreement entered into last month between LogistiCare and Nehemiah Ministries, the non-profit economic development arm of the Fifth District of the AME Church, to provide outreach to faith-based organizations in the development of Medicaid transportation resources.

“I’m pleased to have been invited to be part of this event and to have the opportunity to talk about this partnership to other AME Church officials,” said Shermyen. “We believe that this is a great opportunity for the AME Church and for our company to really help make a difference in people’s lives.”

The purpose of Mr. Shermyen’s presentation is to encourage other AME Churches to consider partnering with LogistiCare to provide transportation for persons in need, while also helping to expand each church’s own community outreach.

Focused on meeting the needs of the underserved and transportation disadvantaged in local communities, the partnership program rolled out Nov. 1 in Nevada with the First AME Church, Las Vegas.

LogistiCare and the AME Church now are actively rolling out the program in the following states: Missouri, Oklahoma, Colorado, Virginia, South Carolina, New Jersey, Florida, Georgia and Delaware.

“We’ll be there to help each church move step by step through the process of training and credentialing staff and vehicles,” added Shermyen. “We’re up and running as of Nov. 1 in Las Vegas, so I anticipate that this partnership will continue to grow.”

About the AME Church

The African Methodist Episcopal Church has a unique and glorious history. It is unique in that it is the first major religious denomination in the Western World that had its origin over sociological rather than theological beliefs and differences. The Church was born in protest against slavery—against dehumanization of African people, brought to the American continent as cheap labor.

The Mission of the African Methodist Episcopal Church is to minister to the spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional, and environmental needs of all people by spreading Christ's liberating gospel through word and deed. At every level of the Connection and in every local church, the African Methodist Episcopal Church shall engage in carrying out the spirit of the original Free African Society, out of which the A.M.E. Church evolved: that is, to seek out and save the lost, and serve the needy.

The Mission of Nehemiah Ministries is to provide resources, services and financial contacts to pastors and church leadership for church growth and community development.
