ATLANTA, Sept. 30, 2004 – LogistiCare Inc. has been asked by the state of Colorado to take over management of the non-emergency medical transportation program for Medicaid recipients in eight counties formerly managed by Arapahoe County officials.
Because of accounting issues related to the program, the state first asked LogistiCare to intervene on an emergency basis beginning Sept. 1, and then take over full management of the program effective Oct. 1. The contract will run through June 30, 2005.
“We are pleased that the state of Colorado has recognized the value that LogistiCare can add to the management of this critical transportation program,” said John Shermyen, president and chief executive officer of LogistiCare. “Our service provides a structured means for beneficiaries to receive appropriate levels of transportation and access to care while reducing system inefficiencies and the potential for fraud and abuse.”
LogistiCare’s team will first focus on stabilizing the program and understanding the fiscal challenges encountered since the county began managing the program in the fall of 2002.
“First and foremost we want to help fix the system to best meet the needs of the program and to ensure that providers, facilities and recipients won’t be adversely impacted,” Added Shermyen. “These programs have a diverse stakeholder community; and outreach to and input from the community are essential for their success.”
LogistiCare’s technology is the first of its kind geared to health care transportation that integrates scheduling and routing with back-office functions, such as billing verification and quality assurance reporting.
By emphasizing clients' and customers' needs, LogistiCare has a culture of aggressive quality assurance. Its proprietary software features seamless integration of telephone, Internet, wireless devices and proprietary analytic software.
As an outsourcing solution, LogistiCare’s services are based on a medical case management model and include utilization management, risk management, case management and quality assurance reporting that result in better quality, cost containment, reduced fraud and enhanced access to services.
“ Colorado, has certain unique challenges in the provision of these critical NET services. We intend to change the focus from strictly financial concerns to how we can best serve everyone involved,” Shermyen explained.
